A method of removing articles 19 from a continuous manufacturing line without interrupting the passage of other articles 19 on the line comprises the steps of removing a section of the line 11, 111, 113, with the article 19 to be removed, and replacing the missing section 11, 111, 113, with a separate section 12, 17, 112 to re-complete the manufacturing line. Also disclosed is an apparatus comprising a pair of conveyor portions arranged in parallel alignment, each having means, such as 12, 17, 112 for transporting an article 19 along a manufacturing line and being mounted on a frame 13. The frame 13 is reversely transportable between a first and second position corresponding with a conveyor being in alignment the continuous manufacturing line. Further disclosed in some detail are two further methods in which it is specified that the article 19 is a pane of glass 19, removable from the manufacturing line to have a spacer fitted to it. During removal, the glass 19 is tilted into a horizontal position on table 11 for processing by an operative whilst a second pane of glass 19 overtakes it on the re-completed line. The first pane is then replaced into the manufacturing line after its spacer is fitted and the two panes are taken further down the line for additional processing. The two panes of glass may be later assembled to form part of a double-glazed unit such as a window. |
