The groundsheet is folded several times and is accommodated in the big central compartment of the rucksack (1). Sliding clasp fasteners (8,21) hold the central compartment shut. A pocket (6) on the rear part of the rucksack may hold a map, a guide to the route or a training schedule. Two bags (7) on the rear part of the rucksack hold water bottles, and may be held closed with loops of cord (18) and toggles (19). The size of the rucksack is chosen to fit the groundsheet when folded a given number of times.
