PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide carbon nanotubes having a specified structure, mainly a staggered structure, and to provide an SiC whisker with carbon nanotubes, a carbon nanotube film, a SiC substrate with a carbon nanotube film, and a carbon nanotube film body comprising the above carbon nanotubes. SOLUTION: The carbon nanotubes are formed by heating SiC in vacuum to remove silicon atoms from the SiC and the nanotubes have a staggered structure. The nanotubes may contain a chiral structure. The carbon nanotube film comprises the carbon nanotubes having the staggered structure aligned in a specified direction with adjacent carbon nanotubes joined to each other on the outer surfaces of the tubes.
