PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a simple and sensitive method of measurement for a compound producing formaldehyde as a reaction intermediate by using a glutathione dependant formaldehyde-dehydrogenase and to provide a reagent composition for the same. SOLUTION: The method measures uric acid by acting an alcohol oxidase to a sample, and then acting uricase to an aldehyde the product of the enzyme reaction or to the sample, forming formaldehyde by acting catalase in the presence of methanol to the hydrogen peroxide which is the product of the enzyme reaction, and acting glutathione and the glutathione dependant formaldehyde- dehyrogenase to the formaldehyde then analyzing a compound produced by the enzyme reaction.
