PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To broaden the regulating range of an attenuating force and to reduce in size in an attenuating force adjustable hydraulic damper having a pilot attenuating force regulating valve. SOLUTION: The piston 5 coupled to the piston rod 11 is slidably engaged within a cylinder 2 in which an oil liquid is sealed. Pilot type projecting side and retracting side attenuating force adjustable mechanisms 6 and 7 are mounted at the piston 5. The pilot control valve of the projecting side attenuating force adjustable mechanism 6 is used as a pressure control valve including a valve disc 39 and a pressure receiving part 41, and the pilot control valve of the retracting side attenuating force adjustable mechanism 7 is used as a flow control valve including a spool 64. A slider 36 provided integrally with the disc 39 and the spool 64 is controlled by a proportional solenoid 44, and hence the projecting side and retracting side attenuating force are adjusted. The flow control valve having a wide regulating range and the pressure control valve facilitating a reduction in size are assembled to thereby broaden the regulating range of the attenuating force and to reduce in size.
