PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an iron-base sintered alloy of a hard-grain dispersion type having adequate abrasion resistance, which can be applied to a valve seat to which a heavy mechanical load is applied at a high temperature, without having secondary treatment such as copper infiltration. SOLUTION: The hard-grain dispersion type iron-base sintered alloy is characterized by having a structure which disperses hard particles of 3-20% in a matrix having a composition comprising, by wt.%, 3-12% Ni, 3-12% Mo, 1-6% Cu, 0.5-5% Cr, 0.6-4% V, 0.5-2% C, and Fe with unavoidable impurities, and containing dissolved Cu therein, and by that copper (Cu) is more alloyed in the matrix than in pre-alloyed powders made of at least Cu and Fe. If necessary, 1-20% of a fluoride (LiF<SB>2</SB>, CaF<SB>2</SB>, BaF<SB>2</SB>or the like), a boride (BN or the like) and a solid lubricant of a sulfide (MnS or the like) are dispersed.
