This auxiliary undersea cable forms a type of bypass that results in the provision of a redundancy. In the event that the undersea cable (12) is damaged, the signals can be transmitted further over the auxiliary cable (15) and until the undersea cable (12) is repaired. This eliminates the need for carrying out expensive rock cutting, particularly in rocky regions.
