A mechanical antitheft device fitted in a tube (7) is fixed to the steering column which has a barrel actuated by a key introduced into upper face (10) of the tube. A rotating electrical switch (11) is rotated by the antitheft barrel and is fitted to the upper face of the mounting tube. A capsule fits on top of the tube and has on its upper end face an annular plate which has on its internal face electrical contacts. These contacts form part of an electrical circuit mover molded when the capsule is fabricated and are designed to cooperate with a cursor fitted between the plate and the face (10), connected to the barrel via a boss. The circuit is connected to an electronic card (6) that controls the vehicle ignition system.
