A bed for mechanically changing the position of a patient has a flexible planar mattress support which is adjusted with pivoting side bars (4.1) and or side levers so that its shape can be changed to a chosen shape. Additional height adjustable rollers (7.1, 7.2) and a pivoting angle lever (8) are used to change patient position using a program controlled geared motor (10).
