PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To quickly provide a sharp image of a fingerprint in detecting the image by use of the heat transfer characteristics of the projecting and recessed parts of the fingerprint.

SOLUTION: When voltage pulses are applied to a heater/sensor circuit 41, the voltage pulses are applied to resistance elements 111 while securing line spacings so that the heat of a certain of the resistance elements 111 is not transferred to adjacent resistance elements. After the voltage pulses are applied, each resistance element 111 is controlled to detect temperature. The voltage pulses are applied to the plurality of resistance elements 111 at the same time while securing the line spacings.
