PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To detect accurately and securely a defect in thread rolling due to subduction. SOLUTION: In a thread rolling machine, a screw stock 10 is introduced between a fixed die 11 and a moving die 12, with the head 10a projecting by a given height and then is rolled between the fixed die 11 and the moving die 12 which is moved by a given stroke. The thread rolling machine is provided with a detecting device 4 which detects a defect in thread rolling by sensing the downward displacement of the screw stock 10 during thread rolling. The detecting device 4 is provided with an electrode plate 44 supported on the fixed die 11. A defect in thread rolling is detected by the contact of the bottom surface of the head 10a of the screw stock 10 with the electrode plate 44. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
