PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an ink jet printer in which print quality can be sustained appropriately even when a plurality of ink nozzle arrays constituting a line are arranged while being shifted from each other in the main scanning direction. SOLUTION: An ink nozzle array group 46 having a plurality of ink nozzle arrays 47a for respective ink colors being used for printing a line is divided, in the line direction, into a plurality of divided ink nozzle array groups 47 for respective ink colors and the plurality of divided ink nozzle array groups 47 are arranged while being shifted in the main scanning direction to constitute an ink jet head 26. In the ink jet printer comprising a plurality of such ink jet heads 26, a plurality of linear sensors 133 provided in a head unit 24 in correspondence with the plurality of divided ink nozzle array groups 47 while facing the linear scale 131 are arranged while being shifted in the main scanning direction by an amount corresponding to positional shift of the plurality of divided ink nozzle array groups 47.
