PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper feeder capable feeding paper sheets till the last one irrelevant to the quality of the recording sheet supposed to be the object of feeding in a case where a frictional coefficient of a paper feed roller is lowered. SOLUTION: This paper feeder is provided with the paper feed roller 1 feeding the recording sheets to the downstream side by turning, and a hopper 2 performing separating and pressure-contacting operation to the paper feed roller and having a frictional member 4 in a place pressure-contacting with the paper feed roller when the paper feed roller is turned. The hopper retains the recording sheets in a inclined attitude, and the paper feed roller and the frictional member 4, which push up and turn the recording sheets retained by the pressure- contact operation with the paper feed roller, pressure-contact the recording sheets, so that this paper feeder feeds the recording sheets to the downstream side. This paper feeder is so constituted that relations of a friction coefficientμ1 between the frictional member and the recording sheets, a friction coefficientμ2 between the recording sheets, and a friction coefficientμ3 between the paper feed roller and the recording sheets becomeμ3>μ1 and|μ3-μ1|>|μ1-μ2|.
