PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for feeding a material to be treated which can stably feed a granular material to a pressured thermal reactor operated under high pressure and can prevent gas in the reactor from leaking outside. SOLUTION: In the feed apparatus for feeding the granular material (a) to the pressured thermal reactor 10 treating the granular material (a) by subjecting it to a thermal reaction under pressure, intermediate pressure vessels 4, 5 respectively having ball valves 1, 2 at their top parts are connected to each other, a feed hopper 8 for feeding the granular material (a) is installed above the upper intermediate pressure vessel 4, and a delivery mechanism 6 for discharging the granular material (a), which is fed to the pressured thermal- reactor 10, from the lower intermediate pressure vessel 5 is provided.
