The present invention is about a method and arrangement for congestion control in distributed communication networks. In order to resolve a congestion, resource controlling units in the network report detected congestions to those units that are connection controlling units for connections that apply resources of said resource controlling unit along with a proposal for a new Transport Format Set for these connections. The method can optionally inform the connection controlling unit when the congestion has been resolved.
