PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for searching a pitch parameter in a voice system are provided to reduce a period of time required for searching pitch and decrease the quantity of calculations for obtaining a pitch lag parameter. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for searching a pitch parameter in Qualcomm code excited linear prediction voice coding algorithm composed of a Formant synthesis filter(100), a weighting filter(200), a Formant error prediction filter(300), a pitch synthesis filter(400), a weighting synthesis filter(500) and a minimum value selector(600) includes an estimated value calculator(700). The estimated value calculator receives minimum pitch lag and pixel gain values output from the minimum value selector when the pitch parameter is searched to estimate the current pitch lag, and outputs a pitch lag value and pitch gain value to deliver the values to the pitch synthesis filter and minimum value selector to search only specific sections before and after the estimated pitch lag value.
