PURPOSE: A track ball device is provided to minimize an electric power consumption necessary for operating a track ball by supplying a power of a rotation sensing unit comprising a light-emitting unit and a light receiving unit only when the track ball is used. CONSTITUTION: The upper and lower housings(2,4) are combined interactively. A ball(6) is mounted in the upper and lower housings(2,4). A partial portion of the ball(6) is protruded toward an exterior of the housings. An X-axis(8a) and a Y-axis(8b) are frictionally contacted with the ball(6) and rotated. A rotation sensing unit(10) senses rotations of the X-axis(8a) and the Y-axis(8b), transmits a signal to a control unit(C), and moves a cursor(coordinate) on a screen of a monitor. A switch member(12) is mounted at the lower portion of the ball(6) and turns on/off a power being supplied to the rotation sensing unit(10) by pressing or releasing the ball(6). |
