<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance magnetostrictive characteristics (amount of negative displacement) of a negative magnetostrictive material by establishing technology for making the negative magnetostrictive material composed of a rare-earth alloy anisotropic using an industrial technique. <P>SOLUTION: The negative magnetostrictive material 1 comprises a hot extrusion forming member 1a composed of the rare-earth alloy having a Mg<SB>2</SB>Cu-type crystal structure which manifests negative magnetostrictive characteristics, and in the hot extrusion forming member 1a, anisotropy is added in the extruding direction. In the rare-earth alloy for composing the hot extrusion forming member 1a, its crystal orientation is oriented in the extruding direction. Such a negative magnetostrictive material 1 can be obtained, after heating the rare- earth alloy material at 400°C or higher temperature, by heat-extruding and molding the rare-earth alloy material while keeping the heating temperature. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
