<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical anisotropic element whose production cost is low, which is light in weight, which can effectively prevent deterioration of display contrast, especially at oblique incidence, and which can improve the visual characteristics of displayed color remarkably. <P>SOLUTION: This optical anisotropic element is comprised of a laminate in which (a) an optical anisotropic layer, which includes a nematic liquid crystal or which is comprised of a thermoplastic resin film that can be obtained by passing it between 2 rolling rollers whose circumferential speeds are different, which shows positive uniaxial characteristics, and whose optical axis is tilted from the normal line direction with respect to the lamination body surface, and (b) an optical anisotropic layer which shows positive uniaxial characteristics and whose optical axis is within a surface that is parallel to the laminate surface are laminated. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
