PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a cylindrical battery, which can manufacture the battery with high productivity and can surely position an electrode group in the prescribed position and attitude using a lead piece without deforming the lead piece even if the lead piece is thin, and to provide a manufacturing device. SOLUTION: A small diameter pin 15 having a slightly smaller diameter than that of a center hole 9 of the electrode group 1 is inserted into the center hole 9, and one end face of the electrode group 1 is supported by a supporting step section 36, while the electrode group 1, the small diameter pin 15, and supporting step section 36 are substantially integrally rotated by frictional force generated individually between the electrode group 1 and the small diameter pin 15, and between the electrode group 1 and the supporting step section 36, when the lead piece 2a is circulated to a prescribed position. A breaking force is applied to the lead piece 2a by lead piece stopper means 11 to stop the rotation of the electrode group 1, in a manner that the electrode group 1 is slipped to the small diameter pin 15 and the supporting step section 36 although these are still continuously rotated.
