PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a color rolling phenomenon in an automatic white balance control. SOLUTION: A field memory 4 supplies an image signal of one field that has already been stored to a primary color separation circuit 38 for each field, and at the same time fetches one field of the image signal from an A/D converter 24 for storage, thus supplying the image signal to the primary color separation circuit 38 by delaying one field. The primary color separation circuit 8 separates primary color signals of red, blue, and green from the image signal for each field, and an OPD 32 integrates each primary color signal for each field and acquires an average level in each field. A microcomputer 30 calculates a coefficient to be multiplied to the primary color signals of the red and blue so that the average level of the three primary color signals becomes uniform when the average level of the primary signals of red and blue is multiplied by the coefficient based on the average level for supplying to a WB control circuit 40 in the next field.
