A flexible flat band cable consists of a pre-finished, preformed flat band cable section (10) of predetermined length, width and thickness, in a pre-finished plastic sleeve (20) which also has predetermined dimensions. The sleeve is open or closed along one longitudinal edge, and is open along the other longitudinal edge and the two lateral edges. The open edges are closed and/or reinforced with a plastic material (30), which also surrounds the longitudinal edges of the plastic sleeve and the outside of the sleeve over the lateral edge region. The plastic sleeve and the plastic material consist of the same base material. The plastic is a thermoplastic elastomer, eg a polyolefin. The mantle is applied by bending the flat band cable section to the desired shape, producing the sleeve in two sections, placing the band section into the two sections, placing the latter into an injection mould, and then injection molding.
