<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To terminate a rotary synchronization in a most appropriate time when a transmission operation is performed. <P>SOLUTION: An automatic transmission device has a plurality of transmission gear arrays provided between an input shaft and an output shaft, and a transmission gear array for conducting power transmission is switched from among the plurality of transmission gear arrays by a meshing clutch such as a synchronous mesh or the like. A by-pass clutch for adjusting torque transmitted from the input shaft to the output shaft is provided between the input shaft and the output shaft. At least either the transmission torque of the by-pass clutch or the engine output torque is controlled corresponding to the rotary synchronous state of the input shaft rotation and the output shaft rotation during transmission.
