PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a (3-dimethylamino-2-propenyliden)dimethylammonium derivative usable as an intermediate of a dipyridyl derivative for medicines, agrochemicals, electrophotographic photoreceptors or dyes, easily crystallized and free from glass corrosiveness and explosiveness. SOLUTION: The new (3-dimethylamino-2-propenyliden)dimethylammonium derivative BF4salt represented by formula (1) is disclosed. R1represents I, a monosubstituted phenyl group, a disubstituted phenyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted naphthyl group, and a substituted or nonsubstituted heterocyclic residue. When R1is a 4-substituted phenyl group and 3,4-disubstituted phenyl group, the substituted group represents H, Cl, I, a substituted or unsubstituted alkyl group, a substituted or unsubstituted aryl group, a substituted or unsubstituted heterocyclic residue, a substituted or unsubstituted amino group, a nitro group or a cyano group.
