PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a body shell element to be curved upon collision, manufacturable by a usual method as a sheet metal component, and flexible at least in a certain edge region of a body shell. SOLUTION: To protect a pedestrian in the even of collision with an automobile, the body shell element 1 has at least one edge region whereby an outer side part 4 is separated from a support structural part 3 in such a form that the outer side part 4 forms an energy absorbing region in front of the support structural part 3 as a protecting means in the event of collision.
