PURPOSE: A shock absorber changing damping force is provided to increase adjusting range of damping force according to a road condition by a rotary valve divided for passing oil through a rebound variable hole in tension and through a compressive variable hole in compression. CONSTITUTION: An outer tube(11) and an inner tube(12) are filled with oil. A compressive check valve(20) is inserted along an inside of the inner tube. A piston valve(30) has tension and compression passages(15,16) under the compressive check valve. The piston valve is installed to divide an inner portion of the inner tube into a tension chamber(17) and a compression chamber(18). A rebound check valve(40) is installed to a lower portion of the piston valve. A piston rod(50) is installed longitudinally from a lower central inner side of the rebound check valve. Compressive rod holes(52) and rebound rod holes(54) are formed to the piston rod to penetrate outside valves. A rotary valve(60) is installed to an inner portion of a hollow of the piston rod. A lower portion of the rotary valve is divided into a compression shutter(80) and a rebound shutter(90). A control rod(70) is connected to an inner portion of the piston rod and an end of the rotary valve. Therein, the control rod adjusts flow of oil by a movement of the rotary valve.
