PURPOSE: A piston is provided to achieve improved combustion performance by facilitating mixture of fuel and air in the low and mid load operation regions. CONSTITUTION: A piston(1) comprises a toroidal combustion chamber(2) arranged in the upper portion of the piston, which has a central protruded portion(3); a plurality of protrusions(5) formed at an inner inclined surface(4) of the toroidal combustion chamber inclined downward from the central protruded portion; and a plurality of protrusions(7) formed at an inner wall(6) of the toroidal combustion chamber. The air flowing through the intake port collides against the protrusions, to thereby cause a turbulence and facilitate mixture of fuel and air.
