The invention relates to a method of scenting, disinfecting or inhibiting microbial growth in the air through the aerial emission of particles of a composition based on essential oils and mixtures of same with glycols in varying proportions. According to the invention, the air-disinfecting and -scenting particles emitted into the air are generated by evaporating the liquid composition using a wick which is indirectly heated in the upper part thereof.
