PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrochemical antifouling method, in which the function as an electrode of electroconductive material is improved an electrochemical antifouling effect of the electroconductive material is kept for a long period and freedom in a removing process and a cleaning process, and to provide an apparatus. SOLUTION: This electrochemical antifouling system is composed of at least the conductive material, a counter electrode and a power source which applies a voltage between the conductive material and the counter electrode, and utilizes the direct electron transfer reaction between the electroconductive material and organisms. Therein, one part or the whole part of the surface comprises single metal oxides, mixed metal oxides or composite metal oxides. A positive potential which produces electrochemically no product is applied on the conductive material, and the growth of the aquatic organisms which contact directly or indirectly with the surface is suppressed.
