PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize further reduction of contact opening time by effectively working on the breaker without delay of time the electromagnetic repulsion force of the magnetic repulsion device that is operated at the time of opening of the breaker. SOLUTION: This is an electromagnetic repulsion device which opens the main contact at high speed by installing at the insulating connecting shaft 5 that links between the movable electrode 3a drawn out from the vacuum valve (breaking part) 1 and a switch operating part (not shown) and which, having as main components a drive coil 10 on the fixing side and a short circuit ring 11 on the moving side opposed to the drive coil, excites the drive coil at the time of opening of the breaker and drives rapidly the movable electrode in the opening direction by an electromagnetic repulsion force working between the drive coil and the short circuit ring. The short circuit ring 11 is tightened by a screw at the top end of the flange part 16b formed in one body with the fixing fitting 16, and the above fixing fitting is connected on the axis of the insulating connecting shaft leaving a small play gap g corresponding to the compensation of the wearing of the main contact between the drive coil and the short circuit ring in the closed state of the breaking part.
