PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display device which provides sufficient visibility with little power consumption and reduces uneven brightness by reducing light transmission loss of a rod-like light transmission body 10 in a surface light emitting body 40 having the rod-like light transmission body 10 and a light transmission plate 30. SOLUTION: A counter end face 3 opposed to a light receiving end face 1 of the rod-like light transmission body 10 is made into an inclined surface with an internal angle θ of <90 deg. so that at least a part of light projected from the direction of the light receiving end face 1 is reflected not in parallel with a light emitting side face 2.
