PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic image pickup unit of interchangeable lens type provided with a large-sized imaging device capable of also using the conventional interchangeable lens. SOLUTION: A camera main body 1 is mounted with a CCD imaging device 18 larger in the size than that of the conventional image pickup unit, and a matching lens 2 being an exclusive interchangeable lens is mounted to allow the image pickup unit to make photographing by utilizing an entire imaging area of the CCD 18 for the imaging area. A mount 112 of the camera main body 1 has the same structure as that of the interchangeable lens for the conventional silver salt film camera and the conventional interchangeable lens is mounted on the mount 112 for photographing. When the conventional interchangeable lens is mounted, the image pickup unit calculates an image pickup available image height capable of being imaged by the CCD 18 on the basis of optical information stored in a ROM of the interchangeable lens. Then the image pickup unit sets an image pickup utilizing area on the basis of the image height and uses image pickup data from the image pickup available area as image pickup information. |
