PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical waveguide which causes no deviation of periodicity extending over a whole photonic crystal and composes a bent waveguide having a broad spectrum and to provide a method of manufacturing the waveguide. SOLUTION: Number 1 shows a substrate 2, shows SiO2 layer, 3 shows a Si layer, 4 and 5 show lattice point rows, a stands for lattice constant and W stands for the distance between centers of adjacent lattices of both sides interposing a lattice defect therebetween in a case where a row of lattice is simply eliminated. A linear defect structure is made by eliminating one lattice row from a plurality of linear lattice row groups in a slab type two dimensional photonic crystal, the lattice point row adjacent to a linear defect is so moved to make the width narrower than the linear defect width equivalent to one row of lattice of points, or a structure arranged on the lattice points is deformed and the waveguide width becomes 0.7W. The optical waveguide having this structure has a single waveguide mode which has a large group velocity below a lite-line. |
