PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a highly reliable liquid crystal display device including a rubbing treatment stage in which rubbing cloth provided with high wear resistance, a low static charge property and high alignment regulating power is used. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the liquid crystal display device includes a stage for subjecting a substrate provided with an alignment layer to rubbing treatment using the rubbing cloth. The rubbing cloth has a pile part formed by raising fiber, and the pile part in which fiber constituted of cellulose acetate is contained is used. Crimped bulked yarns can be used as the fiber constituted of cellulose acetate. The cellulose acetate having >=45% degree of acetylation can be used.
