The drive consists of an endless belt passing round two pulleys (P1, P2) positioned vertically one above the other and equipped with a series of hinged metal (steel) blocks (5) measuring e.g. 300 mm long by 50 mm wide and 40 mm thick. On the upward side (A) of the belt the blocks lie flat against the belt, while on the downward side they swing outwards into a horizontal position and act as levers, exerting sufficient effort to keep the belt turning.
