PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical servo track forming and cleaning device used suitably to obtain a magnetic tape which hardly generates a dropout due to unnecessary powder sticking. SOLUTION: The device has a sending-out mechanism part which sends a wound magnetic tape out in a specified direction, an optical servo track formation part which forms recessed parts for optical servo by irradiating the surface of a back coat layer of the sent-out magnetic tape with laser light, a cleaning part which cleans the surface of the back coat layer after the recessed part formation, and a take-up mechanism which takes up the magnetic tape after the cleaning, and the cleaning part is constituted by arranging a contact part which brings a flock body with raised flock, woven fabric, or non-woven fabric into contact with the surface of the back coat layer to clean the surface of the back coat layer and a wiping part which wipes away unnecessary powder sticking on the surface of the back coat layer.
