PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head slider whose flotation quantity is controllable. SOLUTION: The head slider includes a front rail which is formed on a disk facing surface nearby an air inflow end and has an air bearing surface and a step surface lower than the air bearing surface, a transducer which is formed nearby an air outflow end, and a groove which produces negative pressure by expanding air temporarily compressed by the front rail. The head slider further includes a piezoelectric actuator mounted on a head slider back on the opposite side from the disk facing surface except the circumference of the air outflow end. This piezoelectric actuator deforms the front rail and its circumferential part to or away from a recording medium to adjust positive pressure produced on the air bearing surface, thereby adjusting the flotation quantity of the head slider.
