The apparatus has a portable information terminal which is provided with an infrared transmission and reception unit capable of transmitting and receiving data without contact by an optical signal and a storage device storing data to be transmitted and the received data and has an information distributing apparatus which is provided with an infrared transmission and reception unit capable of transmitting and receiving the data with the infrared transmission and reception unit of the portable information terminal and a storage device storing content data received through a network and providing the content data in accordance with a request from the portable information terminal.
