Device for determination or alignment of the point of incidence of an optical beam on a target field comprises a light beam emitting light source as well as a device (22) for monitoring the target field. The device comprises a beam splitter (24) and a mirror (30) on one side of the beam splitter. Between mirror and beam splitter is a first optical element (32) positioned so that the mirror is in its focal plane. On the other side of the beam splitter are objective (38) and ocular (40). The optical element is suitable for conversion of non-visible light into visible light. The invention also relates to a corresponding alignment aid for use with an optical instrument such as a geodesic instrument, theodolite, light barrier or light sampler.
