The steadycam for the free filming with a film or videocamera, consisting of two handle grips (P5), a universal joint (P3) and a counterweight (P8), pivots without the camera leaving its horizontal focal plane. Extension arms (P4) are provided on the universal joint and on their ends have joints pivotable by 180 degrees, and to these are fastened the handle grips which are freely rotatable around their longitudinal axis. The compensating weight in cross or circular form is located centrally below the rotational point of the universal joint.
