PURPOSE: A reproducing device for a DVD is provided to reproduce both MPEG and JPEG files by adding a circuit arrangement for recovering and outputting JPEG data to the DVD, thereby extending the function of the DVD. CONSTITUTION: A reproducing device for a DVD includes an optical pickup(12) for reading signals recorded to an optical disc, a digital signal processor(DSP;14) for converting the read signals to digital data, a CD-ROM decoder(15) for discriminating the compression format of the digital data, an MPEG decoder(20) for recovering digital data compressed by MPEG(Moving Picture Experts Group) standards, and a JPEG decoder(17) for recovering the digital data compressed by JPEG(Joint Photographic Coding Experts Group) standards. The CD-ROM decoder provides the digital data of the digital data converter to the MPEG or JPEG decoder according to the compression format of the digital data.
