A thermal link assembly (70), for use in providing a thermal connection between first and second thermally conductive parts in a cryostat (10), the second part being generally disk-shaped and having a peripheral annular surface, comprises an annular ring (72, Fig 5A), made of thermally conductive material, which has an annular base portion (72a), to be secured to the first part, and a series of contact tongues (88) arranged along the base portion. Each contact tongue has a stem (88a), and a head (88b) with a contact surface (90) to be in contact with the peripheral annular surface of the second part. The stem is thus capable of twisting and bending elastic deformation with respect to the longitudinal axis so that the contact surface of the head is capable of moving in any direction. An annular coilspring band (74, Fig 5c) is fitted around an annular ring in a recess (84) of the thermal link assembly for exerting a force to the head of each contact tongue (88) so as to urge the contact surface of the head against the peripheral annular surface of the second part. The thermal link assembly may be used in a radio telescope having at least one receiver (28), with a corresponding cartridge (24) containing all the necessary components associated with the receiver (28). Each cartridge (24) is able to be inserted into or removed from a cryostat vacuum container (12) through an insertion hole (26). The cryostat comprises stacked base plates (38, 40, 42), each cooled by a cryogenic cooler (36), each base plate being thermally linked to a disc-shaped cold plate (62, 64, 66, Fig 3) of the removable cartridge (24).
|
