1,252,938. Alkaline cell electrode. WESTERN ELECTRIC CO. Inc. 13 Nov., 1968 [16 Nov., 1967], No. 53733/68. Heading H1B. [Also in Division C7] A porous nickel mass is activated to form a positive electrode for an alkaline cell, e.g. Ni-Cd cell, by precipitating nickel hydroxide in order to activate the nickel electrode by electrolysing the porous nickel electrode as cathode at a current density of 0À1 to 7À0 amperes per sq. inch of external surface area of the electrode in an aqueous electrolyte containing a nickel salt, e.g. Ni(NO 3 ) 2 and chloride ions having concentrations in the range of 0À1 M to saturation and 0À4 M to 1À5 M, respectively. The chloride can be added as the alkali metal, or alkaline earth metal salt or as NH 4 Cl or HCl. |
