PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To selectively bind a water-soluble polymer to the N-terminal of a protein to produce a homogeneous protein-containing composition. SOLUTION: The method for producing a stable protein-containing composition substantially homogeneously containing a monopolymer/protein combination comprises selectively modifying anα-amino acid at the N-terminal of the protein with a water-soluble polymer such as dextran, poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) or a polyethylene glycol in a reducing alkylation reaction using a reducing agent such as sodium borohydride, or sodium cyanoborohydride.
