PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the width of an ink jet printer itself through a simple structure by moving a wiper part and a cap part individually up and down. SOLUTION: In an ink jet printer where wiping by a wiper part 41 and capping by a cap part 43 are performed by moving a carrier 2 mounting a print head 7 to a maintenance region, a clutch gear 74 is fitted between a feed side gear 64 and a shaft side gear 54 and connected at the time of capping, and then the cap part 43 is elevated and the wiper part 41 is lowered by driving a feed motor 37 to rotate a maintenance shaft 45. At the time of wiping, the wiper part 41 is elevated and the cap part 43 is lowered by driving the feed motor 37 to rotate the maintenance shaft 45. At the time of starting print, both the cap part 43 and the wiper part 41 are lowered.
