PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a high-density magnetic data storage medium. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing a high-density magnetic data storage medium comprises (a) the step of forming a plurality of nanodots 32 made of nonmagnetic material in a regular array structure on a substrate, the array structure being notionally dividable into a plurality of clusters having a plurality of nanodots 32, wherein each nanodot 32 of the cluster overlaps with the adjacent nanodots 32 of the cluster to form a well 34, (b) the step of depositing magnetic materials onto the substrate to partially fill the wells 34 of each cluster, and (c) the step of removing the material to expose the regular array structure of the wells 34 filled with the magnetic material, each of wells 34 being separated from the adjacent wells 34 by a nonmagnetic material.
