CONDENSED POLYCYCLIC (8-RING) AROMATIC COMPOUND, ORGANIC EL ELEMENT USING THE SAME, AND ORGANIC EL DISPLAY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an organic EL element using a new condensed polycyclic (8-ring) aromatic compound with high color purity of red light with excellent emission efficiency and emission brightness. SOLUTION: The organic EL element has between positive and negative electrodes an organic thin film layer including a light-emitting layer. The organic thin film layer contains the condensed polycyclic (8-ring) aromatic compound which has two naphtacenes condensed with the longitudinal directions of their molecules parallel to each other, the compound having a point symmetry skeleton, with either fourteen, sixteen, or eighteen, portions into which substituents can be introduced. The condensed 8-ring aromatic compound is preferably represented by either of the following chemical formulae 1 to 3.
