PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a guard interval length control method for an OFDM system and an OFDM transmitter/receiver in which the multiplex transmission of guard interval length information is not performed. SOLUTION: In the transmitter, transmitting data (STDAT) are serial/parallel converted (103), inverse Fourier transform (104) is executed, a signal (SIFFTO) of a time area is outputted, and one part of the signal (SIFFTO) is copied for a length designated by guard interval length information SIGL, added (105) as a guard interval, and defined as transmitting signal (STX). In the receiver, the guard interval length information to be used for the next transmission is determined from a received signal, the guard interval is removed (106), and a signal (SIDRM) of a frequency area is generated by executing Fourier transform (107), parallel/serial converted (108), and demodulated. The guard interval length information is determined from the level of a correlative value between N sampled in the end of the guard interval and N sampled in the end of a valid symbol part.
