The kettledrum comprises a kettle (1) with a stretched jacket (3) on the open side of the kettle. There is also a surrounding tension-ring (7) to tense the jacket. The tension-ring is a tension and tuning system that is divided in numerous parts along the outer surface of the kettle and the tension-ring's fixed tension element (4). The tension element has a rotatably mounted tension wheel (10) located in a housing (8) and operated via a steering section (11) so that when turning in one direction tensioning of the jacket is achieved via the tension-ring and when turning in the counter direction a reduction of tension of the jacket is achieved via the tension-ring. The steering section may act on one end of the band-like connection and tensioning element (12) and which is held on a further end on the tension-ring.
