The aim of the invention is a bar coil (11) for ignition units, embodied such as to have a high efficiency. Sad bar coil (11) comprises a core (14) in a central position as inner magnetic iron core and a return body (18) in the form of an external magnetic iron core on a housing (13). In order to minimise eddy current losses in the return body (18), said return body (18) comprises several partial pieces (22), electrically insulated from each other, mounted on a support (23) which is fixed to the housing (13). The bar coil (11) is preferably for application in the automobile industry.
